Drent has less chance of a Chamber because of large party choice

Professor Caspar van den Berg explains this in the first episode of Drenthe Kiest. “If there are more political parties, the fractions are also smaller on average, which reduces the chance of getting a Drent in the Chamber,” said Van den Berg.

The place of a Drent on an electoral list is also decisive. “If you have large groups, of thirty or forty people, then you have the space to have one or two Drenten in that as well. But if each group has only eight or nine members, then the chances are that people from the less densely populated areas are smaller. “

But does the number of Drents in the Chamber also matter? We find out in the Drenthe Chooses YouTube series. We will talk to Caspar van den Berg and Mark Strolenberg about the representation of the Drent in the Lower House. Watch this below.

Drenten on the election list

You can vote for 41 Drenthe on your Drenthe ballot. Nationally there are fifteen. Some parties choose to put special candidates, often regional people, on the electoral list. So it is possible that in Drenthe you can vote for 41 Drenten, but elsewhere in the country for less.

Van den Berg of the University of Groningen conducts research into regional representation in politics. Recently, two Drenten were in the House of Representatives: Erik Ziengs (VVD) and Agnes Mulder (CDA). Drenthe is therefore slightly underrepresented.

This underrepresentation does not mean that the interests of Drenthe cannot be represented. “You cannot say one on one that someone from the same region can best represent you. Conversely, someone from the Randstad can ask questions in parliament that are of particular importance to Drenthe,” says Van den Berg.

Whether or not a seat?

Mark Strolenberg is one of the Drenten who is running for election in the upcoming elections. At number 38 of the VVD list, it remains exciting whether he will get a seat. According to Strolenberg, it is important to vote for a Drent and that is why he is busy making himself recognizable in the province.

In the program Drenthe Chooses Reporters Jeanine Hofsteenge and Josien Feitsma go to Tjak to investigate which themes are important to Drenthe during these parliamentary elections. Tomorrow we will be talking about agriculture. One of the most important themes in our province. The broadcast can be seen on YouTube at 8 p.m. or on the TV program Drenthe Nu from 5 p.m. All the news about the parliamentary elections can be found on our special Drenthe Kiest website.
