“I have no idea how this positive test came about. I already had a hypertensive crisis and had injections to lower my blood pressure.” This is what Dr. Diana Dimova of the emergency center in Vratsa, who tested positive for alcohol, told bTV.
The medic was in one of the two teams sent to the scene of the accident on the Vratsa-Krivodol road, in which a 3-year-old boy died. The car driven by the child’s father overturned in a ravine after skidding on the rain-soaked road. The driver was driving at a high speed – over 100 km/h, and the little boy was not in a high chair, but in his mother’s arms. After his death, the relatives attacked the Emergency Center in the regional town and accused the doctor of being drunk.
The police confirmed that her blood alcohol test was positive, 1.44 per thousand. The inspectors start an inspection in the emergency department of Vratsa.

Dr. Dimova specified that although her working hours are from 7:30 p.m., she was at the Emergency Center half an hour earlier.
“My working hours are from 19:30, I went to work at 19:00, and the signal was given at 19:03. We left immediately. At 19:04, the ambulance took off, we arrived at 19:09. We saw what is the situation. The police helped lift the car. The child was completely crushed. Relatives pulled him and literally threw him into the ambulance, and we drove off,” said the doctor.
She was adamant that the boy had no vital signs.
“We performed resuscitation in the ambulance, but the child was dead. He was dead not from the moment we took him out, but long before that,” explained Dr. Dimova.
Her words were confirmed by another medic who was present at the scene of the accident.
“I went to the place, I saw that the child was trapped under the sheets of the car. I asked the policemen to help, to lift the car so that we could get him out. The child had no vital signs. Dr. Dimova assisted in the ambulance. My job is to turn on her monitor , to check if the child has a heartbeat. That’s what she did,” Dilyana Yordanova explained.
“Medical supervision” begins an inspection at the CSMP in Vratsa, which must establish compliance with medical standards in the provision of assistance and other requirements related to the emergency condition of the accident victims.
According to the director of the Emergency Center, the breathalyzer performed on Dr. Dimova showed 1.44 ppm of alcohol in the exhaled air.
