From April 14, the exhibition “Dreams and Time of Pēters Pētersons” dedicated to the outstanding Latvian director, actor, dramatist and translator Pēters Pētersons will be on display at the 3rd floor of the Liepāja Theater’s Champagne Hall. The exhibition will be open to those who attend Liepāja theater performances, but at the opening event of the exhibition – on April 14 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. – it will be available to all interested parties, informed Zanda Borga, the literary advisor of the Liepaja theater.
Kārina Pētersone, the daughter of Pēters Pētersones – translator, public political worker – will also take part in the opening of the exhibition, as well as LNA experts Meldra Usenko and Antra Mazūras.
The exhibition reveals the multifaceted personality of Pēters Pētersons, allowing us to look into his life’s work through an exhibition dedicated to his multifaceted activities, which gathers materials from the LNA funds and the family archive of Pēters Pētersons.
Pēteris Pētersons (1923-1998) celebrated his hundredth birthday on May 24, 2023. He is one of the brightest Latvian theater directors, playwright, theater theoretician, critic and translator. His productions in Daile and Jaunatne theaters have become legendary in the history of Latvian theater. He created the poetry theater and the legendary show “Play, Spēlmani!” recorded in the cultural canon of Latvia. Production “Play, gamblers!” The Youth Theater was founded in 1972 at the invitation of its chief director Adolf Shapiro. The script of the show was created together with the poet Imantas Ziedonis, the script was based on the works of Aleksandar Chakas.
The exhibition was created in 2023 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Pēters Pētersons in cooperation with the Latvian Society (RLB) and the artist’s daughter. It will be possible to see it in the Liepāja theater until May 7.
