The quarterfinals of the W Gold Cup have ended and the keys to the semifinal have already been defined, with two dream matches that will leave the two finalists of one of the most important soccer tournaments in the region. La Tri will face the Brazilian team, one of the elite teams in women’s soccer, and Canada will face the United States team, who vindicated themselves against the coffee team in the last phase.
Canada became the first team to qualify for the semifinals, after defeating by a narrow margin, with the solitary goal from Serie A Roma player Évelyne Viens. The parity forced the teams to extra time and at 104′, the Maple Leaf team called out the qualification ticket.
The second to reach the semifinals was the Brazilian team, which enjoyed the quarterfinals with a carnival by defeating the Argentine National Team 5-0, with whom it has a lot of history and this time added one more victory to the tally. The Brazucas opened the scoring at 19′ with Vitoria Yaya and closed the account with Beatriz Zaneratto’s double at 90+5′.
Mexico, the team that arrived at a perfect pace from group A, had complications with Paraguay, but at the end of the second half they became the third classified for the semifinals.
The Azteca team saw the first thanks to the scorer, Lizbeth Ovalle (31′), who already scored five goals in the competition, Karen Luna added another to the tally (48′), but the Guarani scored on the scoreboard with the goal of Camila Doerzbacher (64′), Ovalle’s response to the score was with the double at 69′ and after this the South American team scored again with Rebeca Fernández at 71′, but it was no longer enough to find the tie and opt for the extension.
The fourth and last team to qualify for the semifinals was the United States, with an almost perfect step after the iconic defeat they had against Mexico. The American team beat Colombia 3-0 to advance to the semis where they will face Canada.
The semifinals will be played this Wednesday, March 6, the first match between Brazil vs. Mexico, at 6 p.m., and Canada vs. the United States at 9:15 p.m.
