“Dream of a Summer Night” directed by Senkov will be premiered at the National Theater / Article

On September 30, the premiere of Shakespeare’s magical comedy “Dream of a Summer Night” directed by Elmars Senkovs is expected in the Great Hall of the Latvian National Theater, the representatives of the theater inform.

“When nature is at its most fertile maturity and the summer night air vibrates, we get to a reality where everything becomes apparent, where instincts take precedence over the mind,” the show said in a statement. “This Shakespeare play guides us through different realities. It not only plays on the reality of theater, but also makes us evaluate our everyday reality. Everyone has experienced this feeling when the dream becomes so alive that they can even make an impression for several days.

Who guides us – or instincts? Is there another world? Is life a dream? And if life is a dream, what is death? ”

Director Elmārs Sņkovs says about the production: “The first impulse to start working with Shakespeare’s play“ Dream of a Summer Night ”and thinking about what this whole story is about is theater in the dark. When the theater is empty and only a rare on-call light shines, there is something ghostly and magical at the same time. You step on an empty stage and “draw” the show. You draw your dream that you want to realize. In the director’s work, I see something in common with Pak, who deliberately creates the biggest / main misunderstanding of this play, so that we can all find it interesting, fun or unusual. He creates the drama of the show. That is the essence of the joke – to entertain us. But is Paks or Robin Gudfellov just a joke to keep the intrigue … ”

Arturs Krūzkops, Kaspars Zvīgulis, Madara Botmane, Liene Sebre, Kārlis Reijers, Jana Ļisova or Laura Siliņa, Igors Šelegovskis and others will play in the show.

The creative team of director Elmars Senkovs also included set designer and costume designer Vladislav Ogay (Russia), costume designer Anna Heinrihsone, composer Anna Ķirse, choreographer Elīna Gediņa and lighting artist Oskars Pauliņš.
