Dream Cruise Turned Nightmare: Australian Passenger’s Trip Ruined by Cruise Ship Change in Destination

An Australian shared on TikTok his anger when he found out his dream trip was ruined. In the story, the cruise ship eliminates the destination that is the attraction of its cruise.

Reporting from Yahoo News, Monday (12/2/2024) Melbourne resident Helen Midler was very excited about her dream cruise to Antarctica and around South America. However, he was shocked when Antarctica was removed from the ship’s destination midway through the voyage.

He boarded the cruise ship Norwegian Star, which departed from Buenos Aires, Argentina on February 4. And the cruise he chose took 14 days.

Midler took to social media to express her frustration and explained that she only learned of the change after checking her app for a few days. And he also saw that the name of the cruise ship had been changed.

In the notice, the trip to Antarctica was canceled for operational reasons. However, no further explanation was provided.

Passengers were allegedly told that a decision had been made by US headquarters not to visit Paradise Bay, on the Antarctic mainland, before departure on January 31. All passengers are notified via email, and also at check-in. However, Midler said, this did not happen.

“I can assure you that we never received any emails and many of our friends who participated, and I talked to hundreds of people that we know, also did not receive any emails,” he said in the video.

“Until the cruise began, most of the passengers on this ship were unaware of the change in itineraries,” he added.

Passengers feel frustrated

Midler said that everyone was angry and hundreds of passengers eventually gathered on the ship’s porch to ask for clarity. However, the ship refused to provide an answer and deployed a security team.

“Customer service refused to answer us, they sent security to calm us down,” he said, standing in the middle of the noisy crowd. “We feel we were cheated, cheated.”

“Everyone on this ship has paid a lot of money to sail to Antarctica, not to make a round trip to South America by sea,” he complained.

Other passengers also expressed their frustration online and acknowledged their sadness.

“It’s very sad, especially since the price is very expensive. If they had warned us before we left, we could have canceled it,” he said.

He said there was no explanation or offer of compensation from the ship regarding this cancellation. Even though hundreds of passengers have their own struggles to be able to buy their dream sailing tickets.
