DRC: the Minister of Finance and that of ESU sign an insurance agreement to strengthen the social protection of university professors and higher institutes

The Minister of Finance, Doudou Fwamba Likunde Li-Botayi, and his colleague from Higher Education, Marie-Thérèse Sombo, signed an insurance agreement marking a significant step forward in the social protection of professors at universities and public higher institutes of the DRC. This agreement offers insurance policies adapted to the specific needs of teachers, including health, disability and funeral coverage.

The President of APUKIN welcomed this initiative, highlighting its positive impact on higher education and research, as well as on promoting the role of teachers in the development of the country.

For his part, the Minister of Finance said he was honored to fulfill the commitment made by the President of the Republic. He reaffirmed that social protection is essential to create a calm and motivating working environment, while emphasizing the need for continued commitment to improve the living and working conditions of teachers.

“For me, this is a moving moment, because I believe that values such as equality, freedom and solidarity are essential to the advancement of our society. Since 2019, women have occupied a prominent place in our public policies, in accordance with the vision of our President,” he declared.

Doudou Fwamba also spoke of the progress made in access to education, in particular thanks to the policy of free education, allowing many children, in particular more than 3 million young girls, to access school rather than facing early marriage.

The Minister of Higher Education, also a professor, welcomed this progress, in line with the ambitions of the Head of State.

During these meetings, representatives of insurance companies, such as Cover, SFA and MSO, presented the guarantees offered, thus strengthening teachers’ confidence in the system. This initiative is part of a broader framework of reforms aimed at modernizing the education system in the DRC, in accordance with the ambitions of Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, who wishes to promote the essential role of teachers in society.
