The voter identification and registration operations, which are in their 19th day, this Monday, March 6 in the east of the country, benefit from significant logistical support from MONUSCO, particularly in North Kivu, Ituri and South Kivu. . This was declared on Saturday March 4 in Goma by the head of the UN mission, Bintou Keita, who affirms that more than 130 tons of electoral material have been sent.
“Indeed, at the request of the CENI, more than 130 tonnes of voter registration material have already been transported by MONUSCO. It should be noted in this regard that our support concerns the three provinces in which the mission is still present. North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri,” she told a press conference as she wrapped up a mission to this region in the east of the country.
For Bintou Keita, this support is part of MONUSCO’s mandate:
“Our mandate, renewed by the Security Council with the consent of the DRC in December, has as priorities the contribution to the protection of civilians, support for the P-DDRCS and support for the reform of the security sector. In addition to these three axes, MONUSCO is also mandated to provide logistical support within the framework of the electoral process, and will continue its good offices and its support for the activities of the CENI, for transparent, credible, inclusive and peaceful elections, held within the constitutional deadline,” she explained at a press conference as she completed her mission in this eastern region of the country.
