DRC: Minister of PTNTIC and Huawei discuss digital transformation for the benefit of Congolese

Augustin Kibasa, Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and New Information and Communication Technologies (PTNTIC), was received by Huawei, one of the strategic partner companies in the field of telecommunications, at its premises at the Congolese headquarters on Friday 05 February 2021.

The Minister and his delegation were guided by Huawei RDC Director General Jim Liu and the Public Relations Manager to discover the work environment and the technologies offered by videoconferencing.

The ministerial delegation’s working session began with a virtual presentation of Huawei’s technologies in Schenzen, China. The Chinese host presented the 5G, Cloud Data Center and Intelligent Computing innovations. A demonstration of virtual reality, robotic industrialization and intelligent road traffic gave a glimpse of Huawei’s futuristic solutions.
Finally, the session ended with a review of the success of Huawei’s presence in the DRC.

The Minister testified to Huawei’s involvement in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which works to develop digital technology and the IT ecosystem through innovative technical proposals.

« Keep in mind that more than 50% of the Congolese do not have a cell phone. Only 12 to 15% of our compatriots are connected to the Internet. The digital divide is important, even though digital is the future of development. We are convinced that ICT will enable future GDP growth, boosting all sectors of the country. The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated global awareness of the importance of digital today, and the DRC must take part », Declared Augustin Kibasa at the end of his visit.

« In so many other countries of the world, children study at home. Unfortunately, we cannot yet ensure such arrangements in our country, but we must already have a long-term vision of what we want for our society. We share Huawei’s philosophy: it is imperative to connect populations to organizations in order to move towards digital and intelligent communication. This is the future of our world, and that of the DRC“, he added.

Augustin Kibasa endorsed the fact that Huawei a very important partner for the DRC and the country needs Huawei in the digital field.

It must be said that Huawei has been established in the Democratic Republic of the Congo for 15 years and directly employs more than 500 people. The company has also invested nearly $ 43 million not only for the construction of local offices but also for the construction of the training center in communication and information technologies.

As part of corporate social responsibility, Huwei is resolutely involved in training Congolese youth in the ICT sector, a total of 60 Congolese students who have joined the Seeds For program.
The Future since 2016. And in this period of Covid-19, Huawei has offered donations of protection against the pandemic to several schools in the DRC.
