DRC: 32 dead in a massacre in the North

At least thirty – two (32) civilians were killed, in a new massacre attributed to the armed group, Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in a locality of the territory of Beni, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Authorities said after the discovery of 26 more bodies of the victims on Saturday.

The bloody attack targeted the village of Kisunga in the territory of Beni, on the night of Thursday to Friday and an initial report communicated on Friday reported 6 deaths.

“Most of the victims were hostages, they were executed with machetes. Their bodies, breathless, were discovered by the population who carried out a search in the area, ”Anadolu Thimothée Kombi, president of civil society in the metropolitan area, told the Agency.

The search was carried out by populations accompanied by the army and rescuers from the Red Cross, who proceeded to the burial of some bodies on Saturday.

Abdoul Kalemire, head of Bashu, a group to which the village of Kisunga belongs, attributed the massacre to the ADF.

“They had burned houses during the attack and set a health facility on fire,” he testifies. The spokesperson for army operations in the region, Captain Anthony Mwalushay, described an attack carried out by the ADF rebels “in connivance and intelligence with the Mai – Mai militiamen”.

Beni is the sanctuary of the ADF rebels, at the origin of the Ugandans withdrawn in the region for more than 30 years.

Their victims number in the thousands, according to an official count. The number of victims has increased significantly since the proclamation of a state of siege in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri by President Felix Tshisekedi in May.

A parliamentary report noted that more than 1,300 civilians have been killed since the entry into force of this exceptional measure, establishing the political and administrative management of cities, territories and provinces by army and police officers.
