Within a literary festival, which is moreover baptized Word for Words, we speak, we write, we sing, we play on and around words. One of the rituals of the festival is to ask guest personalities what their favorite word is. Riad Sattouf responds « future »Joann Sfar shows her enthusiasm for « littoral »Nicolas Mathieu leans towards ” delicate “Christophe Honoré stops on ” candy “. And in drawing, what would your word look like? We have therefore chosen as the theme of the competition “Draw your favorite word”: from this one, create a story, an atmosphere, characters, a graphic universe…
The jury is made up of the illustrator Alfred – creator of why i killed peter (audience award at Angoulême in 2007), Like before (Fauve d’or in 2014) and Castelmaurea co-creation with Lewis Trondheim – and journalist from the Monde Frédéric Can.

The format of the comic must be one to seven plates, with an A4 page size, without limitation of boxes, in color or black and white, with or without text (in French), in portrait or landscape. Each board will be numbered and single-sided only. The techniques used are free, all styles and genres are allowed provided they fit into the theme of the competition. The realization must be individual and the participants must ensure the good quality of the digitization of the files.
The five winners will have their work exhibited at the Mot pour Mots festival, which will take place from June 16 to 18, 2023, in the Grande Halle de La Villette, in Paris. The results will also be published in an article on the website of the Monde. The first prize will win a place for an upcoming comic book workshop organized by Le Monde Workshops, in five sessions per group, within the premises of the newspaper, and worth 1,000 euros.
