Berlin (AP) – FC Bayern has only slightly increased its lead in the Bundesliga. The record champions did not get more than 1: 1 (1: 1) in the top game against third Bayern Leverkusen – the lead over Borussia Dortmund is initially nine points.
The BVB game in Mainz scheduled for Sunday had been postponed to mid-March due to corona cases at FSV. SC Freiburg missed the leap past the Saxons in fourth place in the 1-1 (1-0) win at RB Leipzig due to a late goal. In the lower half of the table, Hertha BSC suffered setbacks in the 1: 4 (0: 1) against Eintracht Frankfurt and tail light SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the 1: 2 (0: 1) at VfL Bochum.
After nine games without a win, VfB Stuttgart managed the hoped-for liberation: Coach Pellegrino Materazzo’s team remains in acute danger of relegation despite the hard-fought 3-2 (1-2) win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. VfL Wolfsburg won 1-0 (1-0) against Union Berlin.
Again, clubs and fans used the matchday to commemorate the victims of the war in Ukraine. Before the game, the scoreboards in the Munich Arena were lit up in the Ukrainian national colors of blue and yellow. The players gathered in the center circle just before kick-off around a banner that read: “End the War! stop the war!
Müller hits his own goal
Central defender Niklas Süle (18th) then scored the lead for Bayern. Thomas Müller (36th), who returned to the starting eleven after a corona infection, scored an own goal – his first in the 407th Bundesliga game.
In the game of the recently weak clubs, Hertha fell behind due to the goal conceded by Ansgar Knauff (17th). The Berliners once again found it extremely difficult to create their own chances. Tuta (48′) and Jesper Lindström (56′) followed suit for Eintracht. Davie Selke (61st) gave Hertha fans hope again – but only for a short time. Rafael Borré (63rd) restored the old distance.
Ermedin Demirovic (38th) scored for Freiburg in Leipzig. But Angeliño (90th) equalized in the last minute of regulation time.
Bochum wins in the promoted duel
VfL Wolfsburg benefited from an own goal by Union Taiwo Awoniyi (25th) after a corner. Both teams played offensively and risky, but no more goals were scored.
In the promoted game, Maxim Leitsch (35′) scored from a free kick for Bochum, before Armel Bella Kotchap (64′) unintentionally scored his own goal and thus brought Fürth back into the game for a short time. Anthony Losilla (71st) brought Bochum back into the lead.
