Defending champions Real Madrid have not been able to increase the pressure on leaders Atletico Madrid in the Spanish championship. Los Blancos did not get past a 0-0 draw against table sixth Real Betis Sevilla on Saturday evening. A few days before the semi-final first leg in the Champions League against Chelsea on Tuesday, Real initially remained second behind city rivals Atletico.
Coach Diego Simeone’s team will have to compete at Athletic Bilbao on Sunday evening and can then extend their lead to five points. Real’s arch-rivals FC Barcelona take on Villarreal in the afternoon and can draw level with Zinedine Zidane’s royal team with a win on points. Barça have also played one game less. Against Betis, who had the better chances in the hard-fought duel, Real showed a poor performance and could have lost the game.
