DRAMMEN: The emergency services responded to a traffic accident in the Strømsås tunnel after being notified of this at 20.42.
The message was that it was a front-to-front accident. The tunnel was immediately closed.
Police operations manager Marianne Mørch states on Thursday night that the accident seems to be serious. The police then did not have an overview of how many people were involved in the accident.
At 21.41, the police confirm that a person died in the accident and that he was alone in the car.
– A car has come over in the opposite lane and first been a bit in an oncoming car, and then hit an oncoming truck, Sørøst police district informs on Twitter.
The person was confirmed dead at the scene. Relatives have not been notified as the identity of this person is not known.
– The driver of the truck is also taken care of by health. The tunnel will be closed for a longer period of time, the police say.
The tunnel is still closed
Around 0730 on Friday morning, the tunnel is still closed.
– The sweeper hopes to wash now, so when it is finished, the tunnel will reopen. It is starting to get closer, traffic operator Ole-Martin Kjeld tells Drammens Tidende.
At 07.49 on Friday morning, Vegtrafikksentralen announces that the tunnel is open again for normal traffic.
Kjeld expects that there will be some queues on other roads in the morning due to the closed tunnel. He explains that it has been cleaned, secured and washed through the night.
– It was cleaned on site, then it was checked that all equipment in the tunnel works properly. It is then washed and swept to ensure that there is no oil in the road surface.
