The ladies’ mass start in Ruka had a dramatic resolution. In the penultimate hill, the American Jessie Diggins lost a pole after driving close to Ebba Andersson.

– I can take on some of that. It was still me who happened to step on her staff, so it slipped out of her hand. That was not the intention, says Andersson to SVT Sport.

Was led away afterwards

Diggins quickly got a new one, but upon submission she was hit in the face by the pole and then went to the finish line bloodied.

The 32-year-old was helped away from the finish line by American leaders. Afterwards, it was announced that Diggins is doing well under the circumstances.

– I lost a stick and got one now. Apparently it hit me in the face. I don’t remember what happened, so I was surprised when I saw the blood on the gloves, says Diggins to Norwegian TV2.

She continues:

– I was really cold and hungry after the finish. But I’m fine now.

Moa Ilar won the competition.
