– They were rescued safely through the collaboration of Coast Guard Ice Rescue Team, Underwater Rescue Team, Wisconsin State Natural Resources Administration, local police, and emergency rescue teams. Two rescue helicopters were also supported by Traverse City, Michigan, on the other side of the lake.

The rescue team used a helicopter to get down the rope and rescue them. The rescue took more than 4 hours. None of the 66 were seriously injured.

In 2009, 134 people in Lake Erie were rescued after a similar accident.
