People who carefully observe the PC market have certainly noticed that since the beginning of the year we have been dealing with significant price reductions of specific computer components. Both SSD and RAM are record-low. What’s more, from month to month we could observe further declines.
In Q3 2023, RAM memory will be cheaper by up to 5%
The latest report from the research group TrendForce concerning the market DRAM makes it clear that the situation in the third quarter of 2023 will change. It is still supposed to be cheaper, but the price reductions will be much smaller and slower. This applies to memory for the PC market, servers, mobile devices and graphics cards.
In the second quarter of 2023, DRAM prices dropped by 13-18%. In the case of the currently started third quarter of 2023, reductions of only 0-5% are already assumed. The older technology, i.e. DDR4 memory, is supposed to be cheaper the mostbut lower prices for the DDR5 standard should also be assumed.
What is the reason for this situation? Largest DRAM manufacturers – Samsung, Micron i SK hynix They finally went into action. Production has been significantly reduced and, in addition, high stock levels are maintained. This reduces the negotiation possibilities of partners and allows you to keep current prices.
Of course, such tactics can be treacherous. If one of the listed companies breaks out and starts to sell off its stock, the rest of the producers will have to react and we will face even faster and larger price reductions than in Q1 and Q2. However, this is unlikely. It has been proven time and time again that the major producers are strangely unanimous when it comes to keeping prices high.
