On Monday, a motorcyclist was killed on Senja.
On Tuesday, a man died then the tractor he was driving crashed with the train.
So far this year, there have been 46 traffic fatalities.
That is a close doubling from last year.
And summer is usually the worst.
– There have been an alarming number of fatalities in traffic recently. We know that there has often been an increase in the summer, so this is worrying, says the Minister of Transport to VG.
– If this development continues, 2022 will be a dark year for traffic safety, he emphasizes.
The unusually high numbers
Then the big question is why. Neither the Norwegian Public Roads Administration nor Nygård have a clear answer so far.
It can be random – or the start of a new normal.
– We can sincerely hope that it is not, says Nygård.

May 15 dies a man and woman in their 50s from Germany after a traffic accident on the E16 at Voss. So lost four comrades killed in an accident in the Steigen tunnel. Both the man who died on Senja on Sunday and the tractor driver from Trøndelag were men:
A total of 39 of the dead this year are men – against 7 women. Most deaths have been among men between the ages of 45 and 64.
– I would strongly encourage you to follow the speed limit, have full attention to the tasks and act responsibly as a road user, the Minister of Transport emphasizes.
– It is mostly about driver errors and inattention, it is a crucial error in the accident picture. This means that the group with the most accidents must sharpen up and have something to work on, says the Minister of Transport and Communications.
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has previously pointed out as a possible explanation to many is in motion after the coronary restrictions were lifted.
