Dramatic Incident at Reims Police Headquarters: Armed Man Subdued by Officers

Motorists who passed at the beginning of the afternoon, this Monday, October 23, in front of the Reims police headquarters, could not have missed the impressive security system put in place.

A little after 1 p.m., a man armed with a knife introduced himself in front of the police station shouting « Allah Akbar ».

The officers on duty immediately reacted by using their “taser” to subdue the individual.

No injuries were reported.

The intervention of the bomb squad was requested to check the madman’s vehicle, parked in the visitors’ parking lot of the police station.

Boulevard Roederer was closed to traffic for the duration of the intervention which proved negative.

The security perimeter was lifted around 2:30 p.m.

The armed man was taken into custody.

This 46-year-old from Rémois is already known to the courts for various crimes and offenses but also for possession of bladed weapons without authorization.

He will now be the subject of a psychiatric assessment.

The reaction of the mayor of Reims

In a press release, the mayor of Reims Arnaud Robinet reacted to this affair.

« I am obviously thinking first and foremost of the police, always in high demand and whose responsiveness made it possible to stop the attacker before a tragedy occurred. The city of Reims obviously has increased vigilance, in conjunction with the Departmental Director of Public Security, the Prefect and the Rector in matters of terrorist risk.
