The driver of a newly purchased luxury BMW pickup truck died after his vehicle plunged into the water mid-afternoon yesterday on Long Island (NY).
The Police Department of the county nassau received a call shortly after 3 pm yesterday about a white object sighted floating in the water off 175 Roslyn West Shore Road in Port Washington. Upon investigation, it was determined that it was a BMW X3 SUV vehicle year 2023.
The van was pulled from the water by the county Emergency Services Unit. The body of a 54-year-old man was also found floating in the water. His name was not immediately released and the coroner must determine the official cause of death.
Several fire departments dispatched divers and a drone response team to the scene. In addition, there were boats that spent hours looking for the submerged car. They finally pulled it out and towed it away.
“It’s surprisingly deep there because it’s a ramp for the boats to come in, it’s deep,” he told News12 Jennifer DeSena, North Hempstead Town Supervisor. “It is a very sad turn of events to be here on a beautiful day, seeing all these great first responders, but preparing for a tragedy”
Police said the investigation was ongoing. It was not clear if the driver jumped into the water intentionally, if the fall was caused or an accident, he said. Fox News.
