Almere City FC‘s cup adventure came to an end on Wednesday evening, before it had even started. Second Divisionist Quick Boys from Katwijk were too strong 3-0, in a match that also saw two red cards.
Even before the match starts, the Almere cup campaign will suffer a setback. The clay-colored cup shirt is not allowed to be worn by the arbitration, because it would look too much like the blue-white outfit of Quick Boys.
The evening would not get any happier after that. Nine minutes after kick-off it becomes 1-0 when Ravelino Junte, a player with an Almere past, hits the bottom of the crossbar. In injury time of the first half the score becomes 2-0 from a penalty, with Joey Jacobs also receiving a red card for his foul.
If the score is 3-0 five minutes after the break, there is no turning back for the ten remaining Almeers. Although Quick Boys also receives a red card, a comeback is not really in the air for a moment. The 2024/25 season in the TOTO KNVB Cup has come to an end for Almere City FC.
The next competition match is an important one, it concerns the cracker against RKC Waalwijk, bottom of the league in the Eredivisie. The kick-off is Sunday, November 3, at 4:45 PM.
