Madrid won 2-1 and aggregated to a 5-5 draw. Man City actually stepped into the final through Riyad Mahrez’s goal in the 73rd minute, but then Madrid responded through Rodrygo Goes’ brace in the 90th and 91st minutes.
The first half, Madrid always failed to convert opportunities into dangerous threats. None of the Madrid players’ shots were accurate until the 18th minute.
Meanwhile, the creation of Man City opportunities is more effective. Until 20 minutes, Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois counted up and down to save three times.
Madrid had their first chance in the fourth minute, but Benzema’s header was still flying. Riyad Mahrez’s opportunity in the 10th minute actually led to the goal, but Thibaut Courtois could still secure it.
Two minutes later, Madrid got another chance. But again Benzema’s shot did not lead to the goal.
Then Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva took turns testing Courtois’ toughness. The Belgian player also appeared slick to thwart these two opportunities.
Gabriel Jesus almost broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute. But the Brazilian’s shot was narrowly wide.
Madrid again received a threat on 39 minutes. Phil Foden scored a hard shot, but still able to anticipate Thibaut Courtois.
