In a new tragic incident, the details of which shook the Iraqi street, a young woman and an Iraqi mother were slit and stabbed with 31 fatal stab wounds by her ex-husband, and her clothes were removed in front of passers-by on the public street.

Asma, 27, is lying on the white bed in Al-Kindi Hospital in Baghdad, suffering from a cut in her vocal cords and holes in her trachea, which threatens her to lose her speech.

For his part, her father, who is sitting next to his liver, explained that her ex-husband assaulted her in front of all eyes on the street while carrying a knife, and assaulted her with more than 30 stab wounds.

He also indicated that he tried to completely strip her of her clothes, adding, angrily, “Does this have honor and jealousy?”

The bereaved father also explained that the perpetrator is still on the run and has not been arrested, indicating that his daughter has been separated from her ex-husband for 7 months, and there is a dispute between them over the children, according to what was reported by Al-Sharqiya channel.

Likewise, the father appealed to the competent authorities in the country to act to protect them from the perpetrator, but the Baghdad police have not commented on the incident so far.

Asma’s case is neither the first nor the last. According to human rights organizations in Baghdad, the Iraqi capital has recorded over the past two months more than 500 cases of violence, some of which have led to murder.

And Iraqi human rights organizations have confirmed that unprecedented rates of domestic violence have been recorded throughout the country, targeting women, children and the elderly, and have exceeded 15,000 cases per year, which prompts an attempt to pass the law that the cabinet voted on in the summer of 2020, but Parliament has not yet been able to pass it.

And last January, the Women, Family and Childhood Committee in the Iraqi parliament revealed its endeavor to pass a law against domestic violence, and held several meetings with civil society organizations, during which they discussed the law and the possibility of drafting it in an acceptable manner and putting it to vote.
