drama in Paris-Nice, Standard and Genk in the final, Union in D1

A weekend rich in sport.

EDA

Between the return of F1, cycling in full swing and the Belgian Cup, the weekend gave us a host of sporting events. We take stock.

BELGIAN FOOTBALL

Pro League

Friday, Charleroi hung a point (1-1) in a line-up match against Club Brugge.

Belgian Cup

Saturday, in the first semi-final, at the end of a disputed match, the Standard finally won its ticket, three years later, for the final of the Belgian Cup to the detriment of Eupen (0-1).

Sunday, Anderlecht let the qualification for the final slip away to the detriment of Genk after a defeat (1-2).

D1B

Union Saint-Gilloise had six games to clinch the D1B title, and therefore return to the Pro League 48 years after their last season in the top flight. The first will have been enough! And what could be nicer than celebrating a climb in a derby against RWDM? In the eyes of the supporters, the big absentees of the evening, almost nothing!

Devils

Roberto Martinez, twelve days before the start of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup and three months from Euro 2020, took stock of his core “” It would be a problem if Vermaelen did not come in March.

MOTORS

Formula 1

Premonitory or illusory? Red Bull set the fastest time in Formula 1 pre-season testing in Bahrain, putting pressure on seven-time reigning world champion Mercedes two weeks before the first Grand Prix. Bull still seems best placed to challenge the hegemony of Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton. With Max Verstappen, setting the fastest lap in 1: 28.960, and Sergio Pérez, their winter rookie, the team made a strong impression during the three short days of winter testing.
