The victim fell from a free-fall tower in the ICON Park, local news station reports Fox35† The attraction is 131 meters high, making it the highest in the world. It can accommodate thirty people at a time.
Visitors go up while spinning, after which they hang forward for a while and then race down in a free fall of 120 kilometers per hour.
Video footage circulating on social media shows the boy falling from the attraction shortly after the platform makes its flight down.
‘Screaming and panic’
Eyewitnesses tell Fox35 that they initially did not realize what was happening. “We thought at first that part of the attraction had fallen down,” says one of them.
“Until we got closer, and we saw a person lying on the floor. Everyone was screaming and panicking.” The victim’s parents would have stood downstairs and watched everything happen.
Emergency services flocked to the scene of the accident, which happened around 11:15 p.m. The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance. There he died of his injuries.
Research
It is not yet clear how the drama could have happened. Both the police and the builder of the attraction are investigating the matter. The free-fall tower had only been open for a few months.
