The team of national coach Cosimo Inguscio was in vain for a long time in the decisive match against Iceland on the hunt for the equalizer. In the 88th minute it became 1-1 in Budapest after which the home team also managed to enforce the winning goal in extra time: 2-1.
sport">Iceland took the lead in the eleventh minute on a mistake by goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, who let a free kick by Gylfi Sigurdsson slip through his hands. That goal seemed to be decisive until Loïc Nego fortunately brought the equalizer to his name. Dominik Szoboszlai was shortly afterwards the greatest hero on the Hungarian side with an effective long shot.

sport">Slovakia secured its participation in the European Championship for the second time in a row. The team of new national coach Stefan Tarkovic brought the decisive play-off against Northern Ireland in Belfast to a successful conclusion: 1-2. Substitute Michal Duris was the celebrated man. He scored the winning goal in the second part of the overtime.
sport">Juraj Kucka won the opening goal of Slovakia after more than fifteen minutes. Milan Skriniar’s own goal made it right in the 87th minute. Thanks to Duris, who lashed out effectively in the 110th minute, Slovakia can participate in the European Championship for the second time.
