The vineyard by bike, is a route of gentle ways in Dracénie registered in the scheme of cycle routes and greenways of Dracénie Provence Verdon agglomeration.
About forty kilometers long, it will eventually link the municipalities of Vidauban, Taradeau, Les Arcs-sur-Argens, La Motte, Le Muy, Trans-en-Provence, Draguignan and Châteaudouble. It connects to the Eurovelo 8 route, the Mediterranean by bike, through the city-center Draguignan. This route will serve towns and villages, wine estates and cellars, tourist and leisure sites in Dracénie (Vidauban leisure center, Taradel viewpoint in Taradeau, Gorges de Trans-en-Provence).
Project history
The first section of the Vine by bike was inaugurated in April 2016. With a length of 5 km, it connects the city center of Les Arcs-sur-Argens and the roundabout called Sainte Roseline in the town of Le Muy. The second section, 3.5 km long, between the municipalities of Draguignan, Boulevard Comte Muraire and Trans-en-Provence. It is in place of a route known in Dracénie under the name of the “Trouée Verte”. Work began in November 2016, and the section was inaugurated on April 8, 2017 in the form of the 1st edition of the “Green Walk in Dracénie”. The third section, 5.5 km long, connects the first 2, via the old railway line for the most part, between the municipalities of Trans-en-Provence and the roundabout called Sainte Roseline in the municipality. du Muy. Thus, the SNCF and bus stations of Arcs-sur-Argens and Draguignan are linked by a route of around fifteen kilometers of soft tracks, or nearly a third of the length of the Vigne à Vélo project.
The fourth Draguignan-Châteaudouble section
Creation of a section consisting on the one hand of a shared lane and on the other hand of a green lane in the municipalities of Draguignan, Ampus and Châteaudouble, with a length of 2.2 km on a shared lane up to last riparian access (zone 30) and greenway 3 to 4 meters wide in asphalt on the edge of Nartuby, agricultural fields with wood crossings and riparian access roads.
Work start date: October 2020
Completion date: April 2021
To discover on this new section
The Pont d’Aups: on the passage of the old “train des pignes” Draguignan-Meyrargues line (iron bridge to the left of the stone bridge) and opposite the old Royal Road which leads to Tourtour (current route of the EV 8- The Mediterranean by Bike)
Viewpoint: along the Chemin de la Clappe looking towards the Domaine du Dragon (right going towards Rebouillon) you can see the remains of the Château du Dragon and the Chapelle Saint-Michel high up on the wooded cliffs.
The hamlet of “La Clappe” which would take its name from the presence at this place of “sinkholes” of suction or suction;
“The threshold dam” on the Nartuby (after the intersection of the Ampus road and the Châteaudouble Gorges) which provides the oldest water intake for supplying the Canal des Moulins, also wrongly called “Canal de la Reine Jeanne” .
The canal appears in the texts at the end of the 13th century and was used, as its name suggests, to supply the various mills (flour, oil) of the Comtale city of Draguignan. As a reminder, as the demand for water has increased over the centuries, the water intake will be more and more upstream towards Rebouillon, requiring the construction of a tunnel under the Château de la Granegone (19th century). The canal will not be concreted (to avoid leaks) until 1963!
The Lones path to Rebouillon. The word “lone” means floodable land… or an arm of a river which is set back from the main bed. It is supplied with water by infiltration from the alluvial water table or directly from the watercourse. This aspect sadly resurfaced on June 15, 2010, causing the death of several residents of Rebouillon.
The ruin of the Moulin, just before the entrance to Rebouillon (before the bridge).

A project connected to La Méditerranée à Vélo
This project is also linked to Eurovélo 8, the Mediterranean by bike, a European cycle route crossing the Dracénie from west to east from Sillans-la-Cascade to Claviers. The EV8 crosses 11 towns of Dracénie (Sillans-la-Cascade, Salernes, Saint-Antonin-du-Var, Lorgues, Flayosc, Draguignan, Figanières, Callas, Bargemon, Claviers and Callas) following the route of the old Train des Pignes railway line.
A project integrated into the tourism policy of the Agglomeration
Dracénie a country strong in its nature, its heritage and its know-how
Located in the center of the golden triangle of Provence, Côte d’Azur and Verdon, the villages of Dracénie radiate light and sun under a surprisingly blue sky. Here the geography makes the richness of the soil and the diversity of the activities.
Oenological and gastronomic discoveries with producers and restaurateurs, meeting around our artisans; sporting adventures in natural sites or historical evocations in museums punctuate the stays in Dracénie.
Dracénie Provence Verdon agglomeration has thus chosen to adopt an ambitious tourist development plan.
Among the objectives sought are:
o The structuring and enhancement of the tourist offer,
o The implementation of a brand strategy,
o The entry of the territory into the era of web 2.0
Digital tools have therefore been designed and developed to serve this brand strategy, which has since been promoted by obtaining the Vineyards and Discoveries Label in March 2017, obtained thanks to representatives of professionals, institutions and professionals who have chosen 85 service providers likely to meet the criteria imposed by the label. Today, more than 80 professionals are part of this network.
The stake of this label was twofold:
– Develop the tourism efficiency of these wine-growing destinations by better promoting these riches and networking these actors
– Develop overall image, reputation and sales for all players in the wine tourism sector.
–
