New gameplay for Dragon’s Dogma 2 was recently revealed, and while the game still looks great, it also features some nice ragdoll physics.
The video begins with Arisen and several pawns fighting enemies using a beautiful flaming sword and deft shield parries. And as editor Hirun Cryer of GamesRadar noted, there are some pretty funny moments happening in this gameplay. For example, at the 9:50 mark, the player jumps on the head of the beast and, after being hit, is catapulted through the screen, accompanied by some nice ragdoll physics.
Apparently we’ll be seeing this happen a lot when fighting large monsters. There is another moment in the video where the monster runs into the player with both legs (mark 10:28), and this time the player flies away again, hitting a stone bridge, which is very reminiscent of being hit by a car in GTA 5.
If you don’t want to get hit like that, you’ll have to pay attention to the monsters’ attacks. It’s interesting that Capcom is taking this approach to ragdoll physics after Monster Hunter World and Rise, neither of which featured the kind of fun flips we see here. And this does not at all spoil the darkness of Dragon’s Dogma 2, but gives it a pleasant physical depth.
By the way, the authors previously reported. that GTA 5 is one of the sources of inspiration regarding the liveliness of the world, and, apparently, ragdoll physics.
