Dragonborn is bloodier, deadlier and even better in the second season – News List

Even before the end of the series Game of Thrones Speculation began in earnest as to what project the creators will return to the world of West Earth next. Several indirect series were considered, which would be built around the remaining characters, diving into the past about the birth of the demonic “white walkers” as well as adaptation of excellent short stories summarized in the Czech edition as Knight of the Seven Kingdoms about a noble warrior of unborn origin, whose captain becomes one of the Targaryens. In the end, however, the winner was the adaptation of the book Fire and Blood, in which George RR Martin told the history of the Targaryen family in West-earth in the form of fictional history.

The art of choosing right

Although the book is proof to many that Martin just doesn’t want to end his most famous series and prefers to have fun with various “hipsters” (after all, he himself has repeatedly said that it’s good to start interesting projects, but worse to finish them), the series on the other hand, it proves that HBO knew very well what they were doing The series about Jon Snow or Arya Stark would certainly be interesting, but what about the bitter experience with the eighth series of Game of Thrones? It would just be too much of a risk to embark on similar projects without the support of Martin’s texts given the fate of the entire franchise.

The project with Naomi Watts, which was canceled immediately after the filming of the pilot, Blood Moon, was probably set in an environment too different from Westland, as were the millions of fans of Martin’s books and the series loved it (in particular, it was about the events of eight thousand years in the past). Besides, it was too “fantasy”. Meanwhile, Game of Thrones in book and serial form benefited from a medieval style and inspiration from English history for the most part, and fantasy elements were always the most interesting. And unfortunately Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is another one of Martin’s unfinished projects – three short stories have been written, and according to some sources, up to nine more are planned.

More on the subject:

Rod draca it is a good choice. From Martin’s extensive history (the second part of which, by the way, surprisingly is not yet out), he processes about two hundred pages of text, which opens the history of the Dance of Dragons to him so-called – the middle of the two Targaryen factions two hundred years before the start of Game of Thrones. So it provides enough clues not only to create an interesting story, but above all to tell and repeat an interesting story.

And since Martin often cleverly offers several interpretations of history in the book, depending on whether he calls a “serious” fictional historian or a creator who loves piquantness and scandal, the material that ‘ giving the creators of the series plenty of freedom to play with the series. characters and the motivations of the characters, as well as introducing and developing various details and secondary stories, perhaps making small changes, because in the words of German historians, who Is it known today just like it was back then?

Woe to the lords on whom a woman sends a dragon

This is also why Rod of the Dragon has such a strong main plot. This stems from the non-recognition of Rhaenyra’s claim to the Iron Throne, daughter of King Viserys I, as “a woman would not be accepted by the lords of West-earth”, and the coronation of her half-brother Aegon after that. II. The heart, however, is not a clash of two armies or a dragon, against which those from Game of Thrones are just harmless lizards (although both of them happen quite a lot, especially in the second series), but personal accidents arising from ambition, misunderstanding. and fear.

Aegon’s mother is Alicent Hightower, who in the book does not have a strong relationship with Rhaenira, but in the series they are girls of the same age who grow up together and are in many ways like sisters. For both of them, however, the impact of the beginning of the war is not only a matter of personal survival, but above all the survival of their children.

By the way, Dragonborn adheres to the “timeline” of events, but he likes to change the age of the characters. Which is partly the result of trying to deepen the relationships between the characters, as we said above. And partly due to much of the series being filmed in Britain, whose laws do not allow characters under the age of 16 to have sex, regardless of the age of their actors.

More on the subject:

In the course of the first season, which maps the events that led to the coronation of Aegon II., Anyway, it was possible to bring life to several other characters, who would sometimes appear in front of the images, or in general, on pages of fire and blood. An example is Daemon Targaryen represented by Matt Smith – the amoral younger brother of Viserys I, who is very optimistic with power and is capable of any harsh actions, but at the same time shows unwavering loyalty to his family – even if they don’t always trust him. In the series, it’s his self-centered actions and his loveable little grudge against his brother’s assistant (whom he’s just jealous of for being closer to Viserys than he is) that put the high- a platform for Rhaenyra’s rejection.

A Dance of Dragons and Consequences

In the second season, all this preparatory work will be used. However, it is difficult – and in fact impossible in the end – to find someone who we can talk about as a really positive character (in Game of Thrones there were a few of them, and not only Eddard Stark who it was). However, we certainly always understand what motivates them and what drives them. Their actions may be irrational, but they are always irrational for a reason. And more often, everyone, without exception, gets caught up in events that were triggered more by accident or simply by a bad explanation…

A perfect example is Rhaenyra’s desire to avenge the death of one of her sons, which happened largely by accident at the end of the first series. Two assassins later broke into the royal chambers in King’s Landing to kill Aemond Targaryen, Aegon’s younger brother. But when they don’t come across it, they decide that any Targaryen will do. And so he kills an innocent child – and even before that he makes his mother choose which of her children to sacrifice. It is not only about the physical and psychological brutality of the given scene, but especially about how you continue to work with it.

The death of Aegon’s heir is used in propaganda to paint Rhaenyra (who had nothing to do with her) as a murderer and traitor. A procession goes through the city with the exposed body (and the stitches that have been carefully taken to attach the severed head to the body) and the grieving queen. Daemon Targaryen, who sent the killers, also sees the stitching of the head in one of his scenes, which adds to his ability … In sharp and ready scenes, it is shown how the blood (and, thanks to the dragons, fire and biting) war cannot stop. Too many people have lost too much, some things cannot be forgotten. And in the end, it doesn’t matter who was right and who saw that he was wrong. Which is on the one hand a wonderful sight, on the other hand a surprise for some.

The streaming service launched a marketing campaign for the second season with two sets of trailers – “black” and “green”, according to the logo colors of the two fake groups. With the grandiose dragons and parade of iconic locations from the Wall to the Dragon Stone to King’s Landing, it might seem like a lot of fun, a bloody battle between two teams that we can sympathize with. according to our own will. But the hard truth will be revealed very quickly – in its first series, the Dragon Family told about the roots of the civil war, and in the second one, how it will destroy the souls and hearts of everyone involved. . And he succeeds in it much more impressively and more convincingly than, for example, in the recently released Alex Garland film Civil War. Because even though Dragonborn has flying dragons, at its heart it’s a painfully realistic look at human nature.
