Moscow: A young man who went whale watching and got stuck in the sea was rescued after 67 days. His brother and 15-year-old son-in-law who went with him died. The event took place in Russia. Russian authorities said he was rescued by a fishing boat off the Kamchatka Peninsula. Although the name of the survivor has not been officially released, Russian media have identified the survivor as 46-year-old Mikhail Pichugin. The 49-year-old brother and 15-year-old nephew were out whale watching in the Sea of Okhotsk. The bodies of two people were found from the boat in which they were travelling.

According to media reports, the trio traveled to the Shantar Islands off the northwest coast of the Sea of Okhotsk. They went missing on August 9 while returning to Sakhalin Island. A rescue operation was launched but they were not found. They had little food and 5.2 gallons (20 liters) of water with them when they went missing.

Pichugin weighed only about 50 kg when he was found. News reports say he lost half his body weight. It is surprising how he managed to survive in the coldest and stormiest sea in Okhotsk in East Asia. He did not tell how his brother and nephew died. When the crew of the fishing vessel spotted the small boat on their radar, they initially thought it was a piece of junk. When the spotlight was turned on and examined, it was discovered that there was a human presence.
