Boris Itzkovich Escobar, better known as drag queen Miss Envy Peru, was attacked by a group of boys in Amsterdam on Tuesday. The artist will report the incident.
Escobar, known for TV shows like Drag Race Holland in Make Up Your Mindsays on Instagram that he was insulted on Tuesday on the bus to Amsterdam Central station and threatened with a weapon by four boys who also filmed the incident.
“Even when I tried to distance myself from the situation by leaving, they continued and kept pushing me.” Escobar was not ‘in drag’, he reports.
Once at the station, one of the boys ran up to Escobar and kicked him to the ground, the artist writes. “Four women came to my rescue and confronted the boys as they ran away. Thank God, because it could have turned out very differently.”
Escobar says that “apart from the shock” he is doing well, but that he wants to go to the police because of the incident. “I was hesitant to press charges because I am a person in the public eye am. But as a proud member of our community and a Pride Ambassador, I can’t keep quiet.”
He also writes that many people from the LGBTIQ+ community are “silent out of fear” when violence is done to them. “That has to stop. No one should be allowed to experience such a horrible thing, and these cowardly actions should be punished.”
