The wait was a little longer than expected for Sekou Doumbouya during the 2019 NBA Draft at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Announced regularly as a potential top 10 (especially in choice number 9, held by Washington), Sekou Doumbouya was finally chosen in 15th position by the Detroit Pistons, where he will evolve alongside Blake Griffin.

The former CSP Limoges player will be the first “Frenchie” to wear the colors of the Michigan franchise, eliminated in the first round of the play-offs this year. Doumbouya is also the seventh French to be taken in the top 15 after Frank Ntilikina (8th in 2017), Joakim Noah (9th in 2007), Tariq Abdul-Wahad (11th in 1997), Jérôme Moïso (11th in 2000), Mickaël Pietrus (11th in 2003) and Frédéric Weis (15th in 1999).
