Draconian measures in France-Israel: Macron in the stadium, thousands of police on the streets –

Thousands of police officers will be on hand for next Thursday’s (14/11) match between France and Israel, for the Nations League at the Stade de France. The measures taken are unprecedented and Paris police chief Laurent Nunez said the match was “high risk” given the tensions of recent days. That is why the security measures will be extremely unusual for a match between national teams. “We will not tolerate violence,” Núñez emphasized, while according to the planning of the measures, it is estimated that around 4,000 police officers will work. Of these, 2,500 will be in and around the Stade de France, while another 1,500 police officers will be on public transport and the streets of Paris just in case.

“An anti-terrorist security perimeter will be set up around the stadium,” Nunez said, while the game will be watched by Emmanuel Macron. His presence aims to “show his full support for the French National Team”, but also “to send a message of brotherhood and solidarity, after the unacceptable images of anti-Semitism in Amsterdam”, as announced by the Elysee.

An elite police unit has taken over the protection of the Israeli team. “The Home Secretary has made available the resources that will allow us to prevent any disruption to public order before, during and after the match,” said the head of measures.
