The head of the Sun Research Laboratory at the National Institute for Astronomical Research indicated, in exclusive statements to Youm7, that the institute is preparing to observe the crescent of the month of Rajab today, Thursday, which is the day of sighting.
He added that preparations are being made to send 7 committees to survey the crescent of Rajab. These committees will be sent to Matrouh, Fayoum, Sohag, Qena, Aswan, and Kharga, in addition to a committee located in Helwan, the institute’s headquarters.
The head of the Sun Research Laboratory confirmed that the committees include representatives of the Sun Research Laboratory, the Astronomy Department, and Dar Al-Iftaa, pointing out that the institute’s administration is informed, which in turn informs the Mufti of the Republic to announce the Sharia vision.
The National Institute for Astronomical Research revealed that, according to astronomical calculations carried out by the Institute’s Sun Research Laboratory headed by Dr. Yasser Abdel Hadi, the crescent of the month of Rajab will be born immediately after the conjunction occurs at exactly 1:59 pm local Cairo time today, Thursday 29 Jumada al-Akhirah 1445 AH, corresponding to 11 AH. /1/2024 AD (sighting day) and that the crescent sets before sunset on that day (sighting day) in Mecca and in Cairo, as well as in most Arab and Islamic capitals and cities.
The moon sets 3 minutes before sunset in Mecca and 7 minutes in Cairo, and in the rest of the governorates of the Arab Republic of Egypt with periods ranging between (2-9 minutes), and in Arab and Islamic capitals and cities with periods ranging between (1-17 minutes).
Thus, Friday 1/12/2024 AD is the completion of the month of Jumada al-Akhirah 1445 AH, and thus the beginning of the month of Rajab 1445 AH astronomically falls on Saturday 1/13/2024 AD.
