Dr Richard Fachehoun appointed director of public health on the North Shore

The Côte-Nord now has its own director of public health (DSP). Dr Richard Fachehoun has just been appointed to this post. He will take office on April 19.

Having become the face of public health in the media since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Côte-Nord, the arrival of Dr. Fachehoun will put an end to a two-year interim assumed for the director of public health of the region neighbor of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Dr. Donald Aubin.

The appointment of the new DSP was confirmed by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, on the recommendation of the Board of Directors of the Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS). It is effective until March 31, 2025.

Dr. Fachehoun has been working on the Côte-Nord since July 2017 as a medical specialist in public health and preventive medicine. Since last January, he also had the function of medical assistant to the director of public health.

Before arriving in the region, the doctor from Benin worked as a lecturer for the baccalaureate and master’s degree in nursing at the University of Quebec in Outaouais.

Previously, he practiced as a general practitioner in his country of origin where, specifies the CISSS in a press release, “he was involved in the overall care of people living with HIV, vaccination and implementation. community interventions ”.

Dr. Fachehoun holds a doctorate in medicine, a graduate degree in public health and preventive medicine from Laval University and a master’s degree with dissertation in community health.

The CISSS specifies that the new director of public health for the Côte-Nord is recognized for his leadership, his professionalism and his ability to mobilize teams.
