Dr. Nowzaradan’s diet makes his patients lose up to 15 kilos in a month, but what does it consist of? Some foods are banned altogether.
He is the most famous doctor on television, feared for his not always friendly ways, but you can hardly see him smiling but certainly he knows how to do his job.
Let’s talk about Dr Younan Nowzaradanstar of Real Time where he has been the protagonist of the toughest docu-reality show on TV for 12 seasons: Lives on the edge. In Patria, in the original version: My 600-lb Life.
Those who participate in the reality show weigh on average around 300 kilos, and are followed for about a year during which, thanks to the diet prescribed by the doctor and sometimes psychological support, they manage to lose a lot of weight.
This allows him to undergo gastric bypass surgery performed by Nowzaradan. But to do this they will have to undergo a highly restrictive diet of around 1200 calories which, often compared to the around 5000 they are used to, is very few. But what does the diet consist of?
Doctor Nowzaradan: the forbidden foods according to him
Those who turn to Dr. Younan Nowzaradan have obvious eating problems and eat disproportionate quantities of junk food. For this reason, the bariatric surgeon’s diet is very restrictive and allows the loss of several kilos per month. Only 3 meals a day against the standard 5 we are used to, many limitations and a little physical exercise, even if it was just a short walk.
It may not seem like much but for his patients, who are often bedridden due to excessive weight, it is enough. The highest obstacle to overcome, however, is to put a stop to uncontrolled eating.

The diet
The diet proposed by Dr. Nowzaradan it is, we said, highly restrictive. But what does it predict? And what does it ban? No carbohydrates it’s allowed. No to pasta and bread, yes to vegetables. But not even all of them: two portions a day to accompany 140 g of very lightly seasoned meat. For breakfast, for example, a low-fat yogurt is fine, with a coffee and 200ml of skimmed milk. The savory version includes an omelette or a slice of wholemeal bread with bresaola.
For those who prefer fish, it’s fine but sardines and salmon should be excluded, obviously accompanied by non-starchy vegetables, so no potatoes and legumes. Cooked 50 grams of beans for dinner. A hard-boiled egg and lean white meat are ideal with vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage or eggplant, cucumber or spinach. And also tomatoes, peppers, turnips and green leafy vegetables.
