/ world today news/ After the 89th year, this is the deepest crisis of our national consciousness
Daniela Goleminova’s interview with Dr. Nikolay Mihailov in the show “12+3” on BNR
“The mobilization to achieve a common goal or simple solidarity in a disaster is experienced as a humiliation for the individual Bulgarian minddecided once and for all that all the genius of the world was concentrated in him. In this epidemic, people who can barely spell the rudiments of culture have become omniscient – more aware of the world’s scientific consciousness. They could not humble themselves, some murderous pride. This is truly a national disaster, because this is how the Bulgarian nation sinks, while we wage punic wars against reason”.
Dr. Nikolay Mihailov, psychiatrist and theologian, commented on this before BNR and pointed out that after the 89th year, this is the deepest crisis of our national consciousness.
He defined as a failure the first place that our country took in mortality from Covid-19 in the world:
“This is a systemic Bulgarian failure. We experience failures with some special passion, with an element of masochism. We are fascinated by our failurewe have a craving for civil strife. We live in this cauldron of bad feelings and singular skepticism, producing versions of our lives that are mind-bogglingly stupid. … There is no solidarity in Bulgaria, no sense of community. Liberal democracy did not tolerate this peopleit has deteriorated further after 45 years of communist training – what has happened now is the unleashing of a drive, of the madness of an unrestrained egocentrism, in the conditions of a universal moratorium on reason”.
According to Dr. Mihailov, people do not realize that the question is not about how they themselves feel, but about whether they can infect other people and endanger their lives:
“If political men are responsible for any real harm they do, it is the inability to manage a crisis, that is indisputable, but they failed to realize the magnitude of the threat called a pandemic, they underestimated it for a long time. They could not adapt it to the Bulgarian conditions. They felt obliged, through their own narcissism, to portray courage, to maintain an image of being independent of this threat and to systematically discredit the data that comes from outside because it comes from a world of rich, by those who want to disqualify us as a poor but proud nation. … We will all pay with human lives“.
The theologian pointed out that the country’s political elite portrayed indifference at all stages of the epidemic.
“We’re headed for a lockdown that will be hard to bear by people who can’t pay attention to the real essence of what’s going on right now. … They’re only frantically interested in whether they can break into a gym and go on a rampage in bars , called night clubs and discotheques. This is considered a kind of sacrilege – to interfere with what makes the liberalized man enjoy life as he understands it. … This is mass madness that cannot be managed politically except by disciplinary measures that are intolerablehe commented.
According to him “much is demanded of the current government, and they do not realize that it can do very little“.
