What natural gift would you like to possess? patience
Your favorite activity? Travel

Your favorite virtue: Straightness
Who inspires you and why? my assertive grandmother, who was already a member of the Heidelberg city council during her time
What qualities do you value most in people? Directness
Who was your hero or idol growing up and why? Robert Redford, strong charisma
What is your heartfelt affair/topic? the outpatient children’s and youth hospice service, which I support as a patron in Düsseldorf and which does the most valuable work in supporting affected families
What do you expect from 2024? It will be challenging.
What are you most looking forward to? to a strong European election campaign and the challenges that come with it
What role will the possible increasing political polarization play in your year 2024, given the high poll numbers of the AfD and the potentially new party “BSW”? I assume that the BSW will make life difficult for the AfD. The extremes always meet in the end.
What does the EU mean to you personally? a project of the heart, peace and the future that needs to be reformed liberally
What are the biggest challenges you see the EU facing? Cohesion, migration, a common voice in foreign and security policy, a clear stance against violations of European treaties
What priorities do you want to give to the election campaign? A positive and solution-oriented one. We can’t just work on others, we have to show ways to improve.
What do you want to focus on in your future political work? In Europe, too, I will focus on foreign and security policy, as well as on the issue of migration.
If you had the opportunity to make a single political decision 100% according to your ideas without to enforce any resistance in the EU Parliament, what would it be and why? a European army
Your year 2023 in a maximum of five words: challenging, surprising, emotional, moving, changeable
Your year 2024 in a maximum of five words: challenging, surprising, emotional, moving, enriching
Who do you think was the best campaigner of all time and how do you determine that? I don’t think there is one best campaigner. Presidents like Obama and Kennedy, but also Clinton, were gifted campaigners, but in the end they were not able to deliver everything their campaign promised.
There are only a few weeks left until the European Party Congress, what is still on your to-do list until then? working on forward-looking solutions to the challenge of the federal budget, the European election campaign, many meetings with the Bundeswehr and diplomats, technical work and, last but not least, shopping for Christmas presents
You are allowed to invite three famous people to dinner: whoever is coming? Janis Joplin, Robert Redford, the Pope
You are invited to the “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” Celebrity Special: Which question do you fail and who do you donate the winnings to? Of course I win. 😉 I would split the money. In any case, a large part would go to the children’s and youth hospice service.
