The following is a detailed explanation of Professor of Pharmacy UGM Prof Zullies Ikawati, PhD, Apt.
He explained, Drug interaction is the effect of a drug on the effect of other drugs when used together in a patient.
In general, this interaction can cause an increase in the pharmacological effect of another drug that is synergistic or additive or reduce the effect of another drug (antagonist), or increase the unwanted effect of the drug used.
“Therefore, actually not all of these interactions have dangerous connotations, some are beneficial, some are detrimental. So it cannot be generalized, and must be studied individually,” he said in a written statement received by Tribunnews.com, Monday (12/7/2021) .
*Then, when are drug interactions beneficial?*
