The April 19 Revolution was a nationwide anti-dictatorship and democracy movement on April 19 of the same year by students and citizens who protested against the manipulation of votes by the Liberal Party regime in the presidential and vice-presidential elections on March 15, 1960, when former President Syngman Rhee was in office.

However, the Syngman Rhee regime suppressed the protesters with force. Police fired live ammunition, resulting in multiple casualties. According to official records, 186 people died and 6,026 people were injured during the April 19 Revolution.
