Dr. Giulia’s outburst: “The Ghostbuster is me now” – Health and Wellness

A close-up photo with the shirt on and the signs of the mask clearly visible on the face, above a comment: “Exactly one year ago we saw the images of Lombardy and they seemed to us something extremely distant. A year later the red zone is us and the doctor dressed as a ghostbuster is me “.

To share the story on social media Giulia Caciotto, twenty-seven years old from San Venanzo (among the Umbrian municipalities in the red zone), in less than two months she went from graduating in Medicine at the University of Perugia to working in a Covid ward.

The young woman – who discussed the thesis on December 15 last – is in fact one of the recent graduates who responded to the call for recruitment of medical personnel launched by the USL Umbria 2, entering service on January 26 at the Spoleto hospital. Here he will remain until the end of the state of emergency, currently on 30 April.

“We were catapulted from the books to the wards in a dramatic moment – he explains -, I never would have imagined it. A hard start, but when I finish it will be nice to think I have made a contribution”. In the hospital, he says, “the turnover of patients is continuous, as soon as a place becomes vacant it is reoccupied. And now that the sick are no longer on TV, but have a name and a surname for me, everything has changed”.

The hope, for the doctor, is that “soon we can return to a normal situation, also thanks to the help of the vaccine, the most powerful weapon we have”. “I – he says – have already taken the first dose, with great serenity”. For now, however, for her, who has reduced contacts to a minimum even at home, the idea of a lunch out or a coffee at the bar seems “absurd”. “We absolutely need to stop diffusion, as well as variations,” he says.

Meanwhile, the young doctor received the applause of the mayor of San Venanzo, Marsilio Marinelli. “You, like many other young people on the front line, are giving the best of themselves in stressful shifts, due to the lack of staff” he comments. And he hopes “priority in the vaccination plan also for family members living together with health personnel”.
