If he is elected chairman of the BLS, he will continue to protect someone’s interests, but not that of doctors, says the chairman of the control commission of the Society of Sofia General Practitioners
The 77th regular report-election assembly of the Bulgarian Medical Union is being held today at the International Fair in Plovdiv. Among the items on the agenda are the election of the chairman and members of the Management Board of the joint organization, as well as the vice-chairmen and the general secretary. Among the most popular candidates for President of the Medical Union is the re-elected President of the Metropolitan Medical College and former Minister of State Dr. Asen Medzhidiev. However, according to the chairman of the control committee of the Society of Sofia General Practitioners, Dr. Georgi Mindov, his candidacy is illegitimate, since the delegates sent to promote his candidacy were chosen by Medzhidiev unilaterally and unconstitutionally.
“There really wasn’t a vote. The delegates were prearranged and named by Dr. Medzhidiev, most likely because they are the ones who will vote “correctly”. At the General Assembly of the Metropolitan College, under his pressure, pre-prepared lists of delegates for the assembly were taken out, which were read by Thus, people who were absent from the meeting are on the list of delegates, and those present, who took an active part and could also be elected, were removed by whom and according to what criteria. We can only guess that the “right” people are in the lists, and the incorrect ones, i.e. those who do not support the candidacy of Dr. Medzhidiev, are removed. This is unacceptable,” says Dr. Mindov and does not hide that the purpose of all this was clear – that Medzhidiev’s candidacy for the chairmanship of the Bulgarian Medical Union would be supported by someone at the Assembly even today.
According to him, the guild needs to be led transparently, by a person with proven practical experience who will protect the interests of doctors. However, it is commented in the circles that the potential candidate for the post of Chairman of the BLS, Dr. Medzhidiev, would rule alone, as he did in the Metropolitan Medical College and would serve his private interests. Over the years, Medzhidiev’s figure has been the exact opposite of the ideal candidate profile, and he remains unrecognized as a successful manager by his colleagues, says Dr. Mindov. He expressed hope that the delegates of today’s assembly will vote objectively and not under pressure from someone.
“It will be disastrous for our class if Dr. Medzhidiev is elected, but unfortunately it seems that things are predetermined.”
