The funeral of Dr. Gao Yaojie, known as “the first person in the private sector to prevent AIDS”, was held on Sunday. She had hoped to scatter her ashes into the Yellow River during her lifetime.

Under heavy pressure,Dr. Gao Yaojie left China in 2009 and settled in New York.she was already over 80 years old at that time, and she knew that she would be “buried in a foreign land”.Dr. Gao passed away in his Manhattan residence on December 10 this year at the age of 95.。
It is reported that hundreds of people came from all over the country to attend the funeral of Gao Yaojie, the “number one person in civil AIDS prevention” in the rain, including Professor Andrew Nathan, an expert on China studies at Columbia University who had always cared about Gao Yaojie.

Gao Yaojie’s relatives revealed that part of her ashes will be buried in New York, and the other part will be taken back to China and scattered in the Yellow River in compliance with her last wish. A will written by Gao Yaojie in 2016 is circulating on the Internet, which mentions “sprinkle my ashes into the Yellow River as soon as possible after death.”
Gao Yaojie has won numerous awards throughout her life, and she was unable to receive many international awards in person when she was in China. In 2007, the International Astronomical Union’s Asteroid Nomenclature Committee named asteroid No. 38980 “Gao Yaojie”. Since then, her name has been with heaven and earth.
