Dr. Fauci: There will be no new lockdown in the United States, despite the risks of the Delta option

However, a leading US infectious disease expert has warned that the coronavirus pandemic situation will worsen again.

The United States will not return to lockdowns despite the growing risks of the coronavirus Delta option, said today Dr. Anthony Fauci, the leading American expert on infectious diseases, Reuters reported.

“I don’t think we’re going to witness lockdown,” Fauci, who is also director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told ABC’s This Week.

“I think we have a sufficient percentage of people in the country – not enough to break up the epidemic – but I still think it’s enough to keep us from being in the situation we were in last winter.”

Although Dr. Fauci did not think the United States would have to close again, as it did last year, he warned on the ABC that “things will get worse” in view of the continued spread of the Delta option.

“In our country, we have one hundred million people who have the right to be vaccinated, but who are not vaccinated,” he said.

The average number of new cases reported each day has nearly doubled in the past ten days, and the number of hospitalized patients in many states has risen sharply, according to a Reuters analysis.
