DPRD NTT: The case of dengue must be a serious concern

Kupang (ANTARA) – The NTT Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) considers that cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in the area need special and serious attention in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic which continues to increase.

“The government needs to be aware of the possibility of an increase in dengue fever at this time because we are still experiencing a seasonal transition, from the rainy season to the wet dry season,” said Deputy Chair of the NTT DPRD Inche Sayuna in Kupang, Monday.

He said that it is now possible to create lots of puddles which are good places for mosquito larvae to thrive.

This condition, he said, is becoming increasingly difficult because it coincides with the COVID-19 pandemic. Because both DHF and COVID-19 are characterized by high fever.

“Therefore, the increase in dengue cases, which is also followed by a fairly high death rate, deserves more serious attention for all parties,” he added.

Currently, cases of dengue fever in NTT have reached 1,573 cases with the number of deaths due to dengue fever reaching 13 cases, after last week East Sumba contributed one more case of patients dying from dengue.

Now in NTT there are also two districts that have determined extraordinary events (KLB), namely Southwest Sumba with 178 cases with 3 deaths and Ngada district with 61 cases with three deaths.

The secretary of DPD I of the NTT Golkar Party said that the public should be encouraged to be sensitive to dengue by taking preventive measures and intensively taking various steps to anticipate the breeding of mosquitoes that carry dengue.

“The government can continue to focus on making an accurate diagnosis of people who are indicated by dengue fever, it must be ensured that they are well served. For example, with a rapid test diagnosis. If the symptoms are mild, they can be treated at the nearest health center, if the symptoms are severe, immediately proceed to hospital treatment,” he added.

The NTT DPRD, he said, would fully support the policy and whatever budget the government needed to provide the best service for the community.
