DPR will abide by MK’s decision if the Regional Election Bill is not ratified by August 27

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad he said he would comply with the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) If so Regional Election Bill which has not yet been confirmed before the registration of candidate pairs for the 2024 provincial elections on August 27-29.

“Well, if the new law is not registered at the time of registration, that means we will follow the final decision, the decision of the Constitutional Court. That is clear,” said Dasco at Parliament Center, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday. (22/8).

Dasco said that Indonesia is a legal country, so it must comply with the relevant regulations.

Dasco explained that based on the rules and regulations of the DPR, decisions on the Pilkada Bill at the Plenary Session could not be taken today.

The confirmation of the Regional Election Bill into law was postponed because it did not meet the quorum. Only 89 members attended the Plenary Meeting.

The cancellation was made amid a wave of mass protests from the Indonesian people. Massive demonstrations were held in several cities at the same time today.
