DPR Urges for Extension of 2024 Election Stages and Backs KPU’s Appeal against Central Jakarta District Court Ruling

JAKARTA – Commission II of the DPR supports the General Election Commission (KPU) RI made an appeal to the DKI Jakarta High Court against the decision of the Central Jakarta District Court.

This was conveyed by the Chair of Commission II of the DPR, Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tanjung, when reading the conclusions of a working meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), the Election Supervisory Body (Bawslu) and the Election Organizer Ethics Council (DKPP) on Wednesday 15 March 2023.

“Commission II together with Bawaslu, and DKPP support the KPU’s move to seriously appeal to the DKI Jakarta High Court against the Central Jakarta District Court decision,” he said as quoted by SINDOnews, Saturday (18/3/2023)

Not only that, Commission II of the DPR, together with the Ministry of Home Affairs, KPU, and the Foreign Affairs Supervisory Agency and DKPP also agreed to continue with the 2024 election stages. This is in accordance with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution and Law No. 7 of 2017 concerning Elections.

“Commission II asks all levels of KPU election organizers, Bawaslu to continue carrying out the 2024 election stages and invites all people to support and actively participate in order to make the 2024 elections successful,” he said.

Meanwhile, KPU RI Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari ensured that the 2024 election stages would continue. “The point is that the series of activities in the 2024 election stages will still be carried out by the KPU,” said Hasyim.

Looking at a series of stages for the next election, the KPU will also prepare a draft General Election Commission (PKPU) regulation to strengthen its regulatory aspects.
