DPR militants sentenced to execution of three foreign fighters

The militants plan to execute:

  • two British citizens Aiden Aslin and Sean Pinner;
  • Moroccan citizen Saadoun Brahim.

As noted by the Russian edition, foreign fighters allegedly “confessed” themselves guilty of “actions aimed at the violent seizure of power.” Aslin was also accused of “undertaking training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activities.”

It should be noted that foreign fighters are prisoners of war. Execution of prisoners of war is a war crime in violation of the Geneva Convention.

What is known about British fighters?

Aiden Aslin, 28, hails from Newark in Nottinghamshire. He came to Nikolaev in 2018 and became a marine in the army of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the same year he married a Ukrainian.

Previously, the man worked in a nursing home and fought as part of the Kurdish armed forces in Syria against the Islamic State.

The 48-year-old Briton hails from Bedfordshire. He was a “respected” soldier in the British army before he moved to Ukraine four years ago. Pinner moved to share his military experience with our fighters.

“Sean has enjoyed the Ukrainian way of life and considered Ukraine his adopted country for the past four years. During this time, he met his Ukrainian wife, who pays great attention to the humanitarian needs of the country,” Sean’s family noted.
