DPR Leaders Are Worried That Terawan Is Fired by IDI Makes Doctors Afraid to Innovate

Jakarta

The Indonesian Doctors Association (MKEK IDI) Medical Ethics Honorary Council fired the former Minister of Health Dr. Terawan Agus Putranto as a member of the IDI. Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, assessed that the MKEK IDI decision was dangerous for the future of medicine in the country.

“Why is this decision dangerous? Frankly, with this MKEK recommendation, I am afraid it will become jurisprudence for similar problems in the future, thus causing our doctors to be afraid to try and innovate with various researches,” said Sufmi Dasco in his statement, Saturday (26/3/2022).

As a professional organization that is authorized in the Medical Practice Law, said Dasco, IDI should be able to better protect and nurture its members and be open to various innovations in the fields of health, pharmacy, and medicine.

The Daily Chairperson of the Gerindra Party DPP asked the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) to pay attention and review the recommendations issued by the IDI MKEK, especially from the legal and statutory aspects.

“I emphasize that this is not only about Mr. Terawan. But this is about the future of our medical world, the future of our pharmaceutical world, to be more independent and independent. Do not let an innovation or achievement that should be appreciated instead be rewarded with sanctions,” said firmly Dasco.

The chairman of the DPR RI will also ask Commission IX to comprehensively revise and review the Law on Medical Practice and the Law on Medical Education.

“I think that evaluation and adjustment of a law is a normal thing, so that the related law is more relevant to the current situation, conditions and needs of society,” said Dasco.
