DPR Cecars Erick Thohir on the Merger of BNI and BTN

Jakarta

Commission VI of the DPR held a working meeting with Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir and Deputy Minister of BUMN Kartika Wirjoatmodjo yesterday (7/6/2022).

During the meeting, members of the House of Representatives asked about corporate actions to be carried out by state-owned banks. One of them is related to the issue of the merger between PT Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) and PT Bank Negara Indonesia Tbk (BNI).

Member of Commission VI of the DPR, Sarmuji, asked Erick Thohir about the news.

“Currently the issue has developed. But there is nothing in the Minister’s presentation regarding the BTN merger. Apart from that, there have been many issues with BTN merging with BNI. Will the plan be carried out,” asked Sarmuji, quoted from Youtube broadcasts, Wednesday (8/6/2022). ).

Sarmuji said that currently BTN has a more specific business, namely the housing segment. Moreover, most of the people who apply for credit to BTN are middle class people who need credit for housing because they cannot pay housing loans in cash.

“If it is a merger, the consequences will be many and the complexity will be very high. Therefore, because there is no more detailed plan, we ask,” he said.

Member of Commission VI from the National Awakening Party (PKB) Faction Nasim Khan asked about this issue. “Mr. Erick, I also forgot about the acquisition of BTN and BNI. Until now there has been no news but within the body of BTN itself, this is already noisy, where are you going?” he asked.

He emphasized that this acquisition issue needs to be explained, so that employees can work with concentration and calm, lest there is a sudden decision that will shock many parties and make a fuss. “This must be clear. So it’s not released like this, Mr. Erick, you know there will be a decision later, Jeder. Now this is what I’m worried about,” he said.

Furthermore, member of Commission VI of the DPR from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) faction, Mufti Anam, explained that currently many people are still finding it difficult to access cheap houses.

“So I really agree that BTN is asking for how much (PMN) if it needs to be supported by DPR friends, why? Because there is a backlog, so that it goes down. Then so that people can access easy and cheap houses,” said Mufti Anam.
